WORKSHOPS
Design isn’t rocket science | 6-12 years
What if everything was design? From the glass, to the chair, to the table, the lamp and much more, design is everywhere. These objects and furniture from our daily lives permeate our collective memories and have now entered the museum. Design isn’t rocket science is a visit followed by a workshop which offers a discovery of design and its history to students and teachers. Through different questions, students are encouraged to think creatively about the interactions between a design object and its environment. Who designed this object? For who ? What material(s) is it made of? When was it made and for what reason(s)? For those who want an introduction to the world of design, these questions will no longer hold any secrets for you!
Materials, shape and colors | 6-9 years
With the help of hands-on activities and experimentation, this tour focuses on the materials, forms and colors of the pieces presented in the Plastic Design Collection, for a step-by-step, sensory discovery of design. The tour ends in the Plasticotek, where pupils observe the different plastics. Then, adopting the shape, color and texture of their choice, each pupil imagines a miniature piece of furniture and creates it using a variety of papers.
(Plastic) design in question | 10-18 years
Where do designers draw their inspiration from? What impact has the conquest of space had on design? What possibilities have plastics offered designers? Are we talking about plastic or plastics? Can plastic design be eco-friendly? Following a guided tour of the Plastic Design Collection, students discover the discipline of design through a series of historical, technical and aesthetic questions.
The tour is followed by a workshop in which old plastics are given a new, creative twist. Students will discover that not all plastics are the same and that by playing with their different properties, we can create objects that are both aesthetic and practical, objects that can be useful in our everyday lives.
