DOCUMENTATION CENTER

The documentation centre of the Design Museum Brussels collects, preserves and enhances documentary resources on the history of Belgian and foreign design, plastic and industrial design, as well as on the movements and major figures of design. The collection is divided between a library unit and an archive unit.

The library

The library includes many books on designers, design, museum institutions but also catalogues of exhibitions, auctions and publishing houses. Many specialized journals are also available such as Domus, Abitare, A+ etc.

The library catalogue is available online as well as in the reading room.

The archives

The Design Museum Brussels also preserves the archives from Philippe Decelle, a collector who has built up an important collection of plastic design objects since the late 1980s. The mission of the Design Museum Brussels is to safeguard, conserve and enhance this fund.

The Philippe Decelle – Plasticarium Fund contains both information on the acquisition and provenance of the constituent objects present at the Plasticarium (1987-2014), as well as on their loan for temporary exhibitions in Belgium and abroad. The collection also includes correspondence with designers, as well as extensive documentation relating to plastic furniture, plastic architecture and designers.  In addition to the manuscript archives, we also keep many photographs and ektachromes as well as slides, DVDs and CDs.

The consultation of these archives makes it possible to take an interest in one of the largest private collections of plastic objects while being interested in the development and operation of a museum and the management of its collection.

The inventory of the fund is available online as well as in the reading room.
