13.04.2025

As part of the Through the eyes of program, external personalities offer their personal views on the exhibitions of the Design Museum Brussels. A unique customized visit where the choice of theme and approach is left to the speakers. Be inspired and guided by exceptional people who will help you see the exhibitions through a different lens. On 13.04.2025, Design Museum Brussels invites you to discover the exhibition Untold Stories – Women designers in Belgium 1880-1980 through the eyes of Pauline Vranckx.

About Pauline Vranckx

Pauline Vranckx is completing a master’s degree in art history at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and is currently writing a thesis on the women of the Sèthe family and their artistic and professional networks. Previously, she studied architects’ house museums as part of a master’s degree in cultural management. With a feminist approach and a view to bringing back to light women who have been overlooked in the history of art, she is taking a fresh look at the networks maintained by Maria, Alice and Irma Sèthe across Belgium, England and Germany.

About the visit

How can we trace the singular careers of these women who have been, voluntarily or not, erased from the history of art and design? This tour immerses visitors in current research, focusing on the complex relationship between women and the Arts & Crafts movement, and on Maria Sèthe’s involvement in the artistic collaboration with Henry van de Velde between 1893 and 1900. How can we reassign these works today? How should they be exhibited? Who’s behind the word ‘anonymous’ on exhibition labels?
