On the occasion of Cine Design, the Design Museum Brussels invites you to the screening of the documentaries Finding Skateboarding and Skate Spectrum on July 8, 2025, in the presence of the movie director, Dries Vanherwegen.
Finding Skateboarding
Belgium, 2022. A teenage girl is addicted to skateboarding, and doesn’t always feel understood. We follow her as she shows us how falling should be seen as a normal aspect of life the way it’s normalized in skateboarding. This intimate and sweet project shows us how Nora finds community, meaning, lessons and answers. While she also questions what skateboarding has become today.

Skate Spectrum
In the winter of 2021 a Belgian mother of 3 children with autism decides to teach skateboarding to children on the autism spectrum. This documentary follows them from the outset over the summer of 2022 and shows their experiences and those of their parents. Skate Spectrum shows how these young children engage in this chaotic sport, as they redefine what it means to be a skater in 2022/23 while being redefined by it as well. Boosting confidence, channeling emotions and reshaping family dynamics, skateboarding turns out to be very meaningful in their lives. A warm and playful tribute to the power of play and not taking the easy way out.
