Discover the history of Belgian interior design on 10 April at the launch of the publication Bronnengids Interieurontwerp België 1945-2000. This guide maps the archives of leading designers, education and design firms and is a source of inspiration for designers, researchers and design industry. After an exclusive look into the research centre, which holds the archives of the couple Sylvie Feron-René Baucher, Christophe Gevers, Zéphir Busine and the plastic design collection and a visit to the Untold Stories – Women Designers in Belgium 1880-1980 exhibition, the book launch and a talk on the topic will follow. History of Interior Design Unraveled

The Flanders Architecture Institute, together with researchers at UAntwerpen and KU Leuven, is uncovering the particularly rich field of interior design in Belgium after 1945 for the first time. The Bronnengids Interieurontwerp België 1945-2000 provides an overview of key sources that reveal the roots of the discipline of interior design.

Hidden story – Sylvie Feron

Sylvie Feron (1898-1984) was a Belgian interior and furniture designer, graphic artist, textile designer and painter. As the great-granddaughter of one of the founders of the Vanderborght furniture business, she studied at the École des arts décoratifs in Paris in the 1920s. In 1934, she started a design studio in Brussels with her husband René Baucher. Their work was featured at key events such as the Milan Triennial and Expo 58.

In 2024, Design Museum Brussels received the archives of Sylvie Feron and René Baucher. It includes drawings, photographs, plans, textile and wallpaper samples and sculptures. The archive spans more than five decades and is gradually being inventoried and made accessible to researchers and the public.

The Untold Stories exhibition, running until 13.04.2025 at Design Museum Brussels, examines the professionalisation of women designers and follows their journey, including that of Sylvie Feron.
