ART ON PAPER: SYLVIE FERON AND RENÉ BAUCHER – AN INTERIOR DESIGN ARCHIVE

28.09.2024 > 20.10.2024

On the occasion of the 9th edition of Art on Paper, the Design Museum Brussels is once again taking part in the event, presenting a collection of works (drawings, plans, sketches) by the interior designers, designers and merchant duo, René Baucher (1902-1983) and Sylvie Feron (1898-1984). Known for their interior design works, but also for their iconic Avenue Louise design store, the Baucher-Féron duo also made a name for themselves with their furniture, lighting, textiles, children’s rooms and tapestries.

Active from the late 1920s to the 1980s, René Baucher and Sylvie Feron carried out major interior design projects for the National Bank of Belgium, the Belgian Blast Furnace and Steelworks Group, the Social Security Fund, the Brussels Palace of Justice, the Hôtel Métropole, Solvay et Cie, the Cercle Gaulois, the Belgian Senate and private projects.

This display of a dozen creations and projects, drawn from the archives recently donated by the Baucher family to the Design Museum Brussels, allows us to share with the public the little-known work of this duo.

Baucher-Féron archive

In 2024, the Design Museum Brussels received the legacy archive of the duo René Baucher and Sylvie Feron. The archive consists of drawings, design projects, photos, sculptures, personal documents, plans, textile, wallpaper samples and administrative archives of the store, spanning more than five decades of collaboration and projects. Preserved at the museum, the archive will be progressively inventoried in order to make them accessible to the academic world and the public.
